About the Steady App

The Steady app was founded in 2017 by former investment banker Adam Roseman after he watched his retired father struggle to make ends meet.

Roseman, along with business partners Michael Loeb and Eric Aroesty went about creating an app that gathered side hustle and gig economy job opportunities in one place.

Early in the creation stages of the Steady app, basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal got on board.

Shaq had been searching for investment opportunities that could change peoples’ lives, and he knew that the Steady app fit the bill.

How the Steady App Works

The goal of the Steady app is to help you find gigs or side hustles that fit in with your lifestyle and desired cash earning preferences.

The app shares a wide variety of side hustles based on the personal information you enter when you sign up.

You can find side hustles such as:

  • Part-time jobs
  • Full-time jobs
  • Online gigs or jobs
  • Create-your-own-schedule gigs

And more. Each gig profile will show you what the job entails, the rate of pay, and more. You decide which job opportunities you want to explore further, and which aren’t a good fit for you.

Then the Steady app helps you move forward with the income opportunities that appeal most to you.

How to Sign Up for Steady

Signing up to use the Steady app is easy. Head over to the Steady website and enter your phone number to get a link to download the Steady app onto your mobile device.

After you’ve downloaded the app, you’ll enter your zip code to help Steady find gigs near you. Then you’ll go about creating your steady account.

Creating Your Steady Account

To create your Steady account, you start by entering your name, email and mobile number, and then agreeing (or not) to receive text notifications.

After that, you’ll agree to Steady’s terms of service and create a password for your Steady account.

From there, you’ll be asked to verify your phone number via text notification. Note that the Steady app is not compatible with VoIP cellular carriers.

Next, you’ll take a short survey asking a few questions that will help the app match you to the best gigs for you.

The survey will ask questions such as:

  • Where do you want to work? (at home, in an office, outdoors, etc.)
  • What does your current work situation look like?
  • Which work features are most important to you? (i.e. flexible schedule, pay rate, location)
  • What kind of work are you looking for?

By answering the questions on the survey, Steady can better match you to the types of side hustles and gigs that best fit your work preferences.

Then you can go about finding work opportunities on Steady.

How to Find Work on Steady

After you’ve completed your profile and verified your account, you can click on the Work tab at the bottom of your device.

Steady will show you a list of gigs and side hustles available in your area, whether that be online or in-person jobs near you.

Along with choosing from Gigs, Work From Home, and Part-time/Full-time tabs, Steady has a Recently Added tab that allows you to scroll through the newest income earning opportunities too.

As you click on each of the listings, you can learn more about the job or gig, including necessary qualifications, rate of pay, level of experience and more.

How to Apply for Gigs

So what happens when you see a gig or job listing that interests you? After you’ve read through the details on the job and you decide you want to pursue it further, Steady helps with that too.

There is an Apply button on the bottom of each of the detailed job or gig listings. When you click the Apply button, Steady transfers you to the site to apply for the job or gig.

From that point on, you’ll be working directly with the person or company responsible for helping you progress into earning more cash.

You can explore as many or as few job or side hustles as you wish, and pick and choose the ones you take advantage of.

What Types of Gigs Are on Steady?

You may be wondering what kind of gigs you’ll find on the Steady app. The Steady app shares a long list of jobs for every type of worker.

Whether you want to work full-time, part-time, seasonally, or simply pick up some gig jobs here or there, Steady shows you options.

Here are some examples of jobs and gigs I found when browsing on the Steady app.

Full time, Part time, and Seasonal Jobs

Steady shares a variety of jobs where you can work full-time, part-time, or seasonally.

I found jobs such as sales rep jobs, retail associate jobs, warehouse jobs, corporate jobs, and more.

You can search and find seasonal work too if you’re not interested in working at a permanent full-time or part-time position.

As I browsed the listings in my area, I found work for large companies, work for smaller local companies, and work for small business owners/sole proprietors.

Online/Work from Home/Gig Jobs

A lot of the online/work from home examples are similar to what you’ll find in our best online jobs guide

I found jobs for data and transcription work. There were opportunities to join a number of survey companies. You could sign up for DoorDash and deliver restaurant food. (is DoorDash worth it?)

The app shared gig jobs for online tutoring and other choices. There were also work-from-home job listings from employers in my area and employers that hire around the country.

I found work-from-home job listings for everything from customer service rep positions to sales rep positions.

The app really did share a wide range of listings that covered pretty much anybody’s working preferences. But how much money can you make using the app?

How Much Can You Make on Steady?

How much you can earn depends on how much work you put into using the app.

Since you get to choose the gigs and jobs you see on the app, you’re left in full control of how much money you make.

The app shares opportunities that range in income from $2-$3 per hour (such as taking surveys) to $25 an hour or more (for “regular” job listings). However, the average user can expect to earn between $10 and $15 per hour.

You decide how much you want to earn, and how you want to earn it. And the app has another feature that can help you earn money too: Income Boosters.

Steady Income Boosters

Steady’s Income Boosters section shows up right alongside the other job and gig listings. Income Boosters are opportunities to make money by taking advantage of deals that the Steady app offers.

For instance, you might earn $50 by opening a bank account via the Steady app. Or you may qualify for a cash bonus by switching to a different insurance company.

You can browse the Income Booster list on your own, or you can personalize your Income Boosters section so that the money making opportunities that come your way are more tailored to your lifestyle.

And just like with the jobs and gigs listings, you get to choose which Income Boosters you take advantage of, and which you don’t.

How Does Steady Make Money?

So, since Steady Basic is free, you may be wondering how Steady makes money for providing this service to users.

Steady’s income comes from affiliate marketing and lead generation.

When the Steady app advertises a product or service and you take advantage of it through the app, Steady gets a commission.

Or if you sign up for a product or service via Income Boosters, Steady gets a commission from that as well.

Who Is Steady For?

Honestly, Steady is a great app for anyone who wants to earn some extra cash. Steady can help you if you:

  • Want to make some easy cash while sitting at home
  • Are a freelancer looking for more work opportunities
  • Have a full time job and want to supplement your income
  • Are searching for side hustles that might help you replace your current income
  • Are in need of a few extra bucks each month to make ends meet
  • Want to work some side hustles to help you reach your financial goals

If you need extra money, whatever the reason, the Steady app may be able to help.

Steady Pros and Cons

To give you a quick summary, here’s a list of some of the Steady apps pros and cons.

Steady Pros

  • Wide range of jobs and gigs available
  • Links right from the app to the application process
  • Easy to use

Steady App Cons

  • The filter feature can be cumbersome
  • Could use more diversity in traditional job listings

The Steady app is great for those searching for gig jobs. However, if you’re searching for traditional jobs, you’ll probably have more luck using sites such as Monster or Indeed.

That being said, when I used the Steady app I did find several listings for warehouse jobs and retail jobs.

But if you’re searching for corporate jobs or higher paying traditional jobs, you may find the number of listings inadequate for your needs. There were some on the app when I conducted my search, but not enough to perform a thorough job hunt.

Summary

Steady app creators have found a great way to gather a wide variety of income opportunities in one place. They’ve succeeded at making it easier for people to earn extra cash each and every month.

While the app isn’t the ideal locale for serious career searches, it’s a great option for those searching for side hustles and gigs.

And if you can use the app to make a few extra thousand dollars each year, I say go for it. You can use the app for free, and if you use it correctly it can help you reach your largest financial goals.
