Who is HomeTrust Bank?

HomeTrust Bank is a regional bank with a headquarter in Asheville, North Carolina. FDIC insured under certificate #27677 since 1926, they have fewer than 40 locations across five states.

They had assets of $3.6 billion near the end of 2022 and they are a community-focused bank that has a juicy bonus on new checking accounts that’s relatively easy to obtain.

How to get up to $400 from HomeTrust Bank

To get up to $400, you need to open a new checking account and then satisfy these requirements to earn a tiered bonus:

  • Get $150 for qualified direct deposits totaling $2,500 or more in the first 90 days.
  • Get $150 for an opening balance of $10,000 or greater and maintaining that balance for the first 90 days.
  • Get $100 when you make at least 15 debit card purchases totaling $500 or more in one statement cycle in the first 90 days.

You don’t have to do all three, you earn the bonus specified when you satisfy the condition. If you only meet the first conditions, you get $300. You don’t need to satisfy the debit card conditions to get the first parts. It’s nice that they separate them so you aren’t compelled to do all three.

They have three checking accounts that apply:

  • Simple Checking – A basic checking account with a $50 minimum opening balance and no monthly service fee.
  • Everywhere Connect – A checking account with mobile access with a $50 minimum opening balance and a $10 monthly service fee.
  • Premier Checking – A checking account with interest and $50 minimum opening balance and $15 service fee.

The fees can be waived if you satisfy some conditions, which differ based on the account.

Must be a resident of Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee or Virginia.

How does this bonus compare?

The tiered nature is nice because if you don’t have a direct deposit to move, you can still get $250. The only limitation is the regional nature of this offer, you have to live in Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee or Virginia.

If you have $10,000 to move around, I suggest the Citi bonus instead because it’s slightly higher (and nationwide).
