What is Gabi?

Gabi is a free insurance comparison website launched in 2016 and works in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia. This service compares up to 40 insurance providers with your current consumer insurance policies.

It compares these insurance products:

  • Auto (including motorcycle, boat and RV)
  • Homeowner’s
  • Renter’s
  • Landlord
  • Umbrella

The average customer saves over $961 a year, according to Gabi. Homeowners can save the most money along with car owners.

Gabi is a licensed agency that compares rates with your current coverage. The service helps you switch carriers if you find a better rate.

You can also buy a new insurance product if you’re currently uninsured for that particular product. (Here are the six types of insurance you need.)

It’s entirely free to use Gabi and there is never an obligation to replace your current insurance policy. Gabi only makes money if you choose a new policy.

While the new insurance company provides insurance coverage and handles any potential claims, you can also call Gabi if you have any questions after switching. Gabi also keeps a digital copy of your new insurance cards.

How Gabi Works

Here is a quick birds-eye view of how Gabi insurance works:

  1. Create a free Gabi account
  2. Connect existing insurance documents
  3. Submit driver’s license number and recent driving history
  4. Compare insurance quotes
  5. Switch to a cheaper insurance provider

The entire comparison process can require less than 10 minutes to join Gabi and compare your rate quotes.

You can start the insurance comparison process by entering your name, email and phone number to create a free Gabi account.

From here, the app connects to most insurance platforms and compares rates within a few minutes.

If Gabi can’t sync with your insurance portal, you will need to upload a PDF copy of your current insurance policy. It takes up to 48 hours to receive an initial comparison quote.

This is key. Insurance can be complicated and what looks like a lower rate may be, in reality, less comprehensive insurance. Gabi looks at your current policies so that you get an “apples-to-apples” comparison. The policies you are being quoted include the same coverage levels as what you currently have.

You will see the ten best insurance quotes and the potential annual savings.

You may be already paying the most competitive rate. If so, Gabi stores your policy details and can compare rates again in the future.

It’s possible to customize your new policy by increasing or decreasing the coverage amounts to make sure you’re not underinsured or to reduce your insurance premium further.

If you decide to switch insurance providers, you can change online or speak with a Gabi agent by text or phone.

Does Gabi Check Your Credit?

Gabi doesn’t check your credit score but the insurance provider might during the onboarding process.

Gabi only provides an initial price quote, the insurance carrier provides a final quote that can involve a soft credit check.

Some states prohibit credit-based insurance quotes but most allow your credit score to be a pricing factor.

Gabi’s Pricing

Gabi is 100% free to use and recommends the cheapest insurance policies from their provider network. The app will also tell you if you’re already paying the lowest price for your insurance.

They won’t sell your personal information. Nor will you get annoying phone calls or spam emails.

Compare Auto Insurance with Gabi

Lowering your car insurance costs can be an easy way to save money, especially if you’re working from home indefinitely.

You can compare these auto insurance products with Gabi:

  • Auto
  • Motorcycle
  • RV
  • Toys
  • Trailer
  • Classic car
  • Boat

In addition to pulling the vital details from your policy summary, Gabi asks these questions to provide a more accurate price quote:

  1. Do you own or lease your insured vehicles?
  2. Do any insured drivers have any accidents or traffic tickets in the past five years?
  3. How long has the current insurer insured the current drivers?
  4. What are the insured driver’s occupations?

These details can help you see if you qualify for safe driver or employment-related discounts.

Top Quotes

You will see the ten best pricing options for your existing auto coverage.

Each price quote lists these details:

  • Insurance provider name
  • Coverage details
  • New monthly and annual payment
  • Estimated annual savings

There are some well-known carriers like Nationwide and Travelers.

But there will also be quotes from smaller providers, including Grange, Encompass or Kemper Preferred. Some of these lesser-known carriers are regional companies. Others are part of the largest insurance companies that advertise on TV and before your next YouTube video loads.

If you don’t switch insurers today, Gabi stores your policy details and can compare prices again in the future. This way future comparisons can be quicker next time.

Whether or not you use Gabi to switch car insurance, it’s a good idea to compare rates at least once a year to verify you’re paying the lowest price. Here’s what people are paying for car insurance, on average.

Compare Homeowners Insurance

Home insurance is one of the other essential insurance products that you can compare rates. You will see the ten best price quotes for an “apples-to-apples” comparison with your existing home or renter’s policy.

Gabi can also help you bundle auto and home insurance to save more money.

There are different homeowner’s insurance policy tiers (HO-1, HO-3, HO-5, etc.) and Gabi’s provider network offers these insurance products. Whether you have barebones named perils only coverage or opt for open perils with replacement cost claims reimbursement, you can compare rates.

In addition to homeowner’s insurance, Gabi compares these dwelling coverages:

  • Renter’s
  • Condo
  • Flood
  • Earthquake
  • Landlord

Other Insurance Products

You may also carry less common insurance products for extra financial security.

It’s possible to compare rates for these other insurance types:

  • Umbrella
  • Personal article floater

These additional products can have higher coverage amounts than standard auto or home coverage. They can also cover events that traditional insurance doesn’t.

How Often to Compare Insurance Rates?

It’s a good idea to compare your insurance rates at least once a year. You might also compare rates after filing a claim or getting a traffic ticket.

Most insurance providers don’t charge a fee if you cancel your policy mid-term. If there is a cancellation fee, you may compare your rates shortly before the renewal date to avoid a coverage gap.

Customer Support

Navigating insurance options can be confusing and you want to make sure that a cheaper insurance carrier isn’t going to underinsure you.

Gabi only provides quotes that copy your existing policy so a coverage lapse is unlikely. But you may still have questions about the comparison or transition process.

If so, you can live chat with Gabi online or with the mobile app (Android and iOS).

It’s also possible to send an email 24/7 to Gabi. You can also request a Gabi advisor to call you.

The service assigns you a dedicated advisor to answer your questions and help compare your options.

Referral Program

If you end up using and liking Gabi, you can refer your friends. You receive a $25 Amazon gift card when your friend gets a cheaper car insurance quote and submits their driver’s license number. They don’t have to switch providers to qualify but must have current auto insurance.

Is Gabi Insurance Legit?

Yes, Gabi is a legit online insurance broker that can help you quickly save money on car and home insurance. The service partners with over 40 carriers, including some of the largest insurance companies.

Note that Gabi isn’t an insurance provider directly. Instead, they aggregate costs across the industry to make shopping easier. The price quotes are an “apples-to-apples” comparison so you get the same coverage but at a lower price from the new provider.

You can also speak with a Gabi agent during the comparison and switching process. Gabi also continues to monitor your premium cost to verify you continue to pay the best rate.

This platform can provide more service than most insurance comparison tools that may no longer communicate with you after switching providers.

Also, Gabi is free and never requires you to switch carriers.

However, Gabi isn’t a perfect app. The service has Better Business Bureau accreditation but has an A- rating (March 8, 2021).

One common complaint is that the insurance provider’s final quote is higher than the original Gabi quote. Differing price quotes are a risk with any insurance comparison tool.

Gabi uses technology to predict potential rates but the insurance carrier performs a final analysis that includes more factors such as your credit history and claims history.

Other fintech insurance companies that don’t partner with Gabi may provide competitive rates too. For instance, you may consider Lemonade for renter’s insurance and MetroMile if you want to pay for car insurance by miles driven.

Positives and Negatives

Pros

  • Compares insurance quotes in minutes
  • It’s free
  • Text, phone, and email customer support
  • Over 40 insurance carrier providers

Cons

  • May need to upload a PDF policy document
  • A final quote may be higher than the initial Gabi quote
  • The cheapest policy may not be your best policy option

Gabi always recommends the cheapest policies first letting you quickly see if you can save money. But you must decide if the cheaper alternatives provide the same service quality.

Who Should Use Gabi?

Most people can benefit from Gabi to make sure you’re paying the best rates for your auto and home insurance. Many comparisons only take a few minutes to complete and there is no obligation to switch policies.

Summary

Gabi makes it easy to compare home and auto insurance rates with your existing coverage with legit insurance carriers. If switching insurance isn’t an excellent financial move right now, you can check rates regularly to make sure you’re paying the best price for your current coverage.

Just read the article and wanted to say that I tried Gabi out last year and my rates cut in half. Currently we pay about $1.85 a day to insure two cars for liability insurance far above the state minimums. Generally dealing with the people there is a pleasure and a phone call putting $600+ a year back in my pocket is very nice.
Now try Mint mobile. I pay $35 a month for 2 phones. I with 2 gigs of data another with 8 gigs. Previously I was paying more then $40 each per month, another nearly $600 a year in my pocket. Service is through T-Mobile and we have had no problems in 18 months. Only thing is to get the best price, you pay once a year. That’s fine they can have the depreciating dollars. Enjoy. I hope somebody finds thus helpful.
